This simplified schematic shows a 2-pole (12dB/octave) state-variable filter topology. The RWC-VCF-4P cascades two of these stages to achieve its steep 4-pole (24dB/octave) slope. The resonance is created by feeding a portion of the output back to the input, a delicate balance that can be pushed into wild self-oscillation.
